Published! The Development of Quality Standards in Signed Language Interpreting

I am pleased to announce the publication of my article on quality standards in signed language interpreting, which has been published in the European Forum of Sign Language Interpreters (efsli) 2024 conference proceedings.

The article, which I originally presented at the efsli 2024 conference in Italy, explores the complex landscape of quality assurance in signed language interpreting across Europe. Drawing on longitudinal studies conducted between 2000-2024, it examines perspectives on interpretation quality from multiple stakeholders including deaf signers, interpreter practitioners, training institutions, and professional organisations.

A unique feature of my presentation was a live interactive questionnaire conducted with conference attendees, providing valuable real-time insights into current perspectives on quality standards. The article emphasises the importance of establishing robust qualification frameworks while recognising the distinctive challenges that arise from signed languages being minority languages in professional contexts.

This publication contributes to ongoing discussions about consumer-driven quality assurance and aims to inspire further reflections on the essence of signed language interpreting quality in Europe.
